LOST: Wednesday, November 16

16 November 2005 :: By Danielle McNamara

I’ve ready many reviews of last week’s episode of LOST that suggest that people were disappointed in the new episode. I, on the otherhand, was very satisfied with it. I’d even go so far as to say that it has been my favorite episode of the second season thus far.

As always, read no further if you don’t want to know what happened or what’s coming up tonight.

The episode opened with some steamy hut action between Shannon and Sayid. It may have been my girl parts crying out, but I was excited to finally see some island lovin’. After they christen the new shelter built by Sayid, Shannon asks him to get her some water. Before he returns, Shannon sees Walt standing in the entrance to the hut doing his creepy whisper thing. Shannon’s screams bring Sayid running back, but not in time to see Walt. He reasons that she must have fallen asleep while he was out fetching some water. Shannon is hurt and angry that he doesn’t believe her.

Flashbacks reveal a younger, softer Shannon as a dance teacher, obviously happy and living comfortably, yearning for an internship in New York. But, when her father is tragically killed in a car accident, her stepmother refuses to help her out financially, even when she lands the internship of her dreams. Shannon is thrust from the life of comfort she has known into a life where she has to take care of herself, and in the process, she hardens herself against the pain.

Back on the island, Claire questions the extent of her involvement with Charlie, as he acts more like a father to Aaron, aka “Turnip Head.” His jabs at her parenting skills cause her to mention her concerns to Locke. When she reveals that Charlie has been carrying around a Virgin Mary statue, Locke realizes that Charlie’s heroin addiction may not be too far behind him.

Sawyer’s infected gun shot wound overcomes him, and against Ana Lucia’s wishes, the tailies, Jin and Michael produce a makeshift gurney and attempt to carry him back to the other survivors.

Not far away, Sayid tries to make up with Shannon, who has decided to use Vincent to track Walt. Shannon hysterically explains that she and Sun found the bottle from the raft and she is afraid that Sayid will leave her after they are rescued from the island. Sayid finally believes her and confeses his love for her. Over her shoulder, Sayid sees Walt… standing between some trees. Shannon takes off to go after him, only to be shot by Ana Lucia, thinking that she was aiming at one of “the Others.”

Tonight’s Episode, “The Other 48 Days” from the official LOST website:

The harrowing first 48 days in the lives of the tail section survivors are revealed.

I don’t know about you, but I am HYPED to finally find out what happened to the tail end of Oceanic Flight #815 and its passengers. There’s not much in the way of spoilers going around this week, but my bet is that the episode is pretty jam-packed with action. It has to cover 48 days in the span of one hour.

Until next week!

  1. It seems pretty obvious that the survivors of the tail know a lot more about The Others than the main group. I will be severely pissed if they don’t tell us everything there is to know about them. Also, I want to see John Locke quarter and filet some of them with his knife collection, and soon. He’s the most bad-ass dude on the show and he hasn’t really done shit since the episode where we first learned about him. Great, we know he’s had it rough in life. But that doesn’t explain how he got to be so awesome.

    I’m not expecting the main plot to advance much this week, since it’s going to focus on the other survivors, but they seriously do need to pick up the pace. Just about nothing has happened since the second episode this season. They can only dangle the carrot for so long before people start to lose interest, and I’m starting to get to the point where I’d rather just hear about it afterwards than actually see it for myself.

  2. […] Thanks to my friends over at CrapFilter I’m not practically biting my remote control waiting for tonight’s episode.  […]
