Lost: Wednesday, November 23
It’s Wednesday again, and it’s time for more discussion about ABC’s LOST. If you don’t want to know, don’t look below.
Last Wednesday’s episode, entitled “The Other 48 Days,” brings us back to the beginning of the story. Only this time, we get to see what happened to the passengers in the back of Oceanic Flight #815. Before the front half of the plane landed on the beach, the back half tears away and crashes into the water just off the island.
Survivors swim or are carried to the shore, and because the doctor (Jack) was on the front of the plane, many die because there is nothing that the other survivors can do. After all is said and done, twenty-three people make it to the beach alive. Of those twenty-three, only four make it to the end of the 48 days.
Ana Lucia takes responsibility for the children and promises a little girl that she will get her home to her mother, but on their first night on the island, 3 people are snatched from the beach before Eko is able to kill two of “the Others.” He falls into a forty day long silence, and it is at this point that Ana Lucia becomes the unspoken leader of the group.
Two weeks later, nine more survivors are snatched including the children, but this time, Ana Lucia is able to kill another of “the Others” and finds a list in his pocket revealing the names of the survivors that were taken. She concludes that there must be an enemy within the group, and Nathan is the suspect. Ana Lucia digs a hole and starves him hoping to force some information out of him, but Goodwin frees him in the middle of the night only to kill him seconds later. We then realize that Goodwin is the enemy, and he is literally sleeping beside Ana Lucia.
When the group finds a bunker in the woods and a radio inside, Goodwin offers to take it to higher ground to try to get a signal so that they can call for help. Ana Lucia offers to go with him, and it becomes obvious that she is interrogating him. She puts the puzzle pieces together and realizes that on their first day on the island, Goodwin ran out of the forest minutes after the plane crashed, and his clothes were not wet.
Goodwin realizes that Ana Lucia has cornered him and he admits to killing Nathan and spills the beans about the intentions of “the Others.” First, they take the strong ones, the “good people”, and then they take the children. Goodwin tells Ana that the children are better off where they are now, and a struggle ensues ending in Goodwin falling on Ana Lucia’s spear.
I really enjoyed the end of the show. We get to see Jin, Michael and Sawyer wash up on the beach only to be thrown into Nathan’s hole. Ana Lucia lets them out and they start their trip to the other side of the island, when they stumble across Sayid and Shannon. The events start to move more quickly and are accompanied by sort of an island beat, as Ana Lucia aims her gun at what she thinks are “the Others” and fatally shoots Shannon. She’s got great aim because in her pre-island days, she was a member of the LAPD.
Tonight’s Episode, “Collision” according to the official LOST website:
Tempers flare when Ana Lucia and her group stumble upon Sayid and the other castaways.
Although last week was much needed recap, I was disappointed by the lack of new information about “the Others.” I’m really excited for tonight’s episode, though. I want to see Sayid go batshit on Ana Lucia, and word is that he will. Also, the two groups of survivors will finally meet up… which means that Rose and her husband, Bernard will finally be reunited.
Until next week!

I thought this was a great episode. The consensus is mixed on this, many people do not like Ana Lucia. All in all, great episode to lead us into next week.
