Mission: Don’t screw this up

13 December 2005 :: By Mark Bodenrader

mi3The trailer for “Mission: Impossible III” can now be viewed over on Yahoo!

I think the most shocking revelation of “M:I 3” is not that it was actually made, which in itself is remarkable considering the second accounted for the biggest drop-off in sequel history since “The Two Jakes,” but that indie gods Philip Seymour Hoffman (From Capote to Cruise?) and Billy Crudup signed on to take part. J.J. Abrams of “Lost” and “Alias” fame also came on board to write and direct.

You guys saw “M:I 2,” right? … I’m even afraid to watch this trailer after that debacle.

What would make this movie for me is if they actually got Ben Stiller, in his full Tom Cruise mode, to make a cameo in the movie and say, “This mission just got a hell of a lot more impossibler.” (Watch here if you have no idea what I’m talking about.)

    I’ll rent it at some point. But if one fucking character, after a crucial secret has just been revealed to them, takes a mask off……..well then I’m pulling a Stewie Griffin - Will Ferrell and finding Tom Cruise and punching him in the face.

  2. ha, I’ll go see it just to see Tom Cruise get thrown around. That part where something explodes and he gets thrown into the car next to him…priceless.

  3. You guys don’t know anything. You’re glib. You’re just glib. You don’t know the history of psychiatry, I do. You’re glib. Ritalin is evil. Did I mention you’re glib.

  4. It’s fascinating that you say M:I2 was the worst sequel dropoff since The Two Jakes since Robert Towne wrote all four movies to which you refer.

  5. go watch the x3 teaser, because x3 is definitely 2006’s summer blockbuster!

  6. Yeah, Towne should really give up on writing sequels. It’s just not happenin’ for him.

    I remember falling asleep in the theater during the first one, or was it the second? Proud moment.
