In your face, Whoopi
Props to my co-worker Stacey for breaking the story (at least to me) of Jon Stewart being selected to host the upcoming 78th Academy Awards.
(Hold on for a second while I do my “I’m psyched Jon Stewart is hosting the Oscars” dance at my desk.)
OK.
This delightful bit of news comes from an article over on the LA Times’ Web site.
Times staff writers Scott Collins and John Horn report that Oscar show officials first approached Stewart shortly before Christmas. According to a source with first-hand knowledge of the situation, the deal was wrapped up in a flurry of activity a day or two before the holiday.
Shouldn’t it be shortly before Hannakuh in this case? Or better yet, Chanukah?
Whatever. It doesn’t matter. Stewart, the savviest and funniest of all TV hosts, will be taking his skills to the Oscars. You may remember a previous article in which I made the case for why Stewart would be the perfect emcee for the event. I mean, I knew I had some sway in the biz, but this is a little crazy.
While we’re campaigning for stuff, how about a third “Cheaper By The Dozen” movie? Huh?
UPDATE: It’s official, as this press release confirms. And Stewart is already firing zingers.
“As a performer, I’m truly honored to be hosting the show,” said Stewart. “Although, as an avid watcher of the Oscars, I can’t help but be a little disappointed with the choice. It appears to be another sad attempt to smoke out Billy Crystal.”

Hi guys. I was just doing a search on msn for blogs about the hit tv show “Lost” and I found this blog. I have had a read through some of the posts and it seems fun so I have bookmarked it.
