New Ford vehicle

1 February 2006 :: By Mark Bodenrader

fordThe TV commercial for Harrison Ford’s latest movie, “Firewall,” starts off like your typical action movie promo — with a blurry action montage, cheesey one-liners and an even cheesier voiceover guy — then it takes a sharp turn… in a brand new Crysler 300C.

Come to think of it, maybe it wasn’t an ad for”Firewall”; Maybe it was an ad for Crysler.

Actually, it was both. Yup, that’s right, another lame product tie-in with a movie, and this time they’re not even trying to conceal it. What a great way to take the edge off an upcoming release. Not that people have expected anything significant from Ford since he spouted “Get off my plane!” in “Air Force One.”

Still, what’s the point? Are we supposed to be excited about this? “A new Chrysler in Ford’s new movie!?! Really!?! Does he get the bad guy!?! What kind of mileage are we talking!?!”

For a good laugh, go to the Web site they promote in the ad. Besides a big photo of a constipated Ford, you’ll find a link to a photo gallery with this tease:

Harrison, the bad guy, and Chrysler 300C photos-see them all here.

And then, of course, a link to a site for the cars:

Learn more about these award-winning vehicles. Are there Oscars in their futures?

No, cars can’t win Oscars. Although they’re probably more deserving of nominations than “Crash.”

    Couldn’t they at least have him driving a Taurus?

  3. The above is my new catch phrase for when I can’t hang out with douchebag friends. Said in that hard, Harrisonian voice, angrily into a cell phone.

    This replaces my former catch phrase for not hanging out, derived from the Val Kilmer vehicle ‘Ghost and the Darkness:’ “They are not lions.”
