A new dimension for Superman

31 March 2006 :: By Chris Coleman

SupermanWhen I think of one-dimensional superheroes, I think Superman. He can do anything, has every possible power, and is basically indestructible, except when there’s kryptonite involved, which, as it turns out, is surprisingly often. Still, that’s not to say that Superman isn’t entertaining and that I’m not looking forward to the new non-primary-color underwear movie.

Back to my point here, Superman is one-dimensional no more.

Warner Bros. Pictures announced Thursday that the Man of Steel will be coming at you this summer. When Superman Returns opens June 30 in wide release, the film is also going to be shown on IMAX screens, with 20 minutes of the action converted into 3D.

That sounds pretty cool, but it really sounds like more of a gimmick of anything. Why is it only 20 minutes? If it turns out well, it’ll be a bummer for the other hour and a half. If it sucks, it’ll be a good way to ruin a $15 IMAX movie.

Or will it maybe be a total of 20 minutes when you add up explosions and Superman flying toward the screen?

  1. Personally, I’d bet the Superman movie would be better if the entire film were only 20 minutes…

    Superman bores me, give me more Batman.

  2. any more than 20 mins seeing something in imax 3d gives you a crushing headache, that’s why. my head almost exploded last time i saw the imax opening countdown with the glasses on.

    btw, the last time superman inspired justin was when he was dead. burn…………

  3. When you have to say “burn”, it’s not a great burn…

    I was going to agree with you previous comment, but now you won’t get the satisfaction.

    Good day… I SAID GOOD DAY!

  4. sorry…confusion. that burn doesn’t belong to me, batman said it to superman in an issue this year. trust me, it stung.
